Rhythim Is Rhythim Strings of Life |
'Detroit Techno' is very distinctive - the drum sounds and rhythms give it away almost instantly
I think the genre is quite clearly divided however. On the one hand there are 'Kraftwerk' inspired futuristic groups like 'Model 500' identified by clinical sequencer lines, huge basslines and 'Vocoders'
On the other there are groups like 'Rhythim Is Rhythim' who although rhythmic, focus more on 'haunting chords' and 'great melodies' - I guess they are more 'Techno Ambient'
Some 'Detroit Techno' compilations include tracks with the distinctive drum sounds but little else - those bore me to death!
Luckily, the tracks I have chosen are all superb! Top 3 is very hard but probably 'It is what it is', 'Time Space Transmat' and 'R-Theme (Mayday mix)'
